Whats the best way and time to apply drop shadows to a project? Should the paint be over reduced? What about the over spray? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Burton. The best thing to use is an airbrush.I've tried my little detail gun but even overreducing the color I don't get the finer atomization I want for the 'blend' edge.Reduction is a matter of taste and what you're doing. The thinner it is the lighter it'll cover but the finer your edge will feather. To do it lets use a flame as an example.Tape off the flame to protect it with fineline and masking tape, and paper if there's enough area. Then just run the edge of the tape with the shaddowing color. It's best to do your shaddows over a coat of intercoat clear so a mistake can be fixed without ruining the base color.Practice a few times on scraps and it'll come right to you.

Hey Burton,
I like touse almost twice as much reducer as usualt in my drop shadow black.
Like Rex said an airbrush is pretty much the only way to go. Just back mask whatever it is you want the shadow under and lay down the black.
Careful not to over do it. It's tough to judge sometimes because you can't see the piece your shadowing since it's masked off.
Overspray isn't much of a problem with the airbrush. I take fineline to mask off the edge I'm shading under, then use two inch tape and kind of bend it up so it makes sort of a wall to keep the black from blowing onto the part you don't want shaded.

Thanks! Up till now I have refrained from using drop shadows but I think you’ve taken some of the fear out of it. The interclear over the top will help a lot.
