HOK Adhereto

Has anybody else used this stuff? I just had to use it on some small bike parts that were hard to sand. Man this stuff has a death grip on paint. I went back to try and do some sanding on some flat parts that I had sprayed with adhereto and coated with a base and I found I had to go down a few grits more than normal to sand off the paint down to the sealer again.

I was kind of concerned it may shade the paint a bit since the color of it has a yellowish tint but I couldn't tell any difference once I sprayed it on and based over it.

There is a short window to spray over it so you better have your next step ready to shoot as soon as you spray the adhereto.

Overall I was quite impressed and may try it in the future on some tight graphics places that have an intercoat clear and are hard to sand.

Sounds like good stuff. I have a question about it for ya.

Does the base coat come off the Adhereto easier if you wipe it off with reducer? Why would I want to know that, you ask? I usually...OK, almost always...make a mistake along the way and must wipe the basecoat off and start over. Just curious if it would come off that way. I'd hate to make a mistake and have to sand it off cuz I'd surely go too far down and hit primer or metal. Just my luck.

Thanks,

Andy

that Adhereto is some tough stuff! I actually need purchase some more, but a small quantity goes along way with me. I don't really use it to cover the whole surface where the main basecoat color is going, but sure it doesn't hurt. What I mainly use it for is masked off areas where I spray a pattern etc. This usually aid in keeping the edges clean and there's no paint lifting. Paint usually comes up easier when it's applied by an airbrush and it's thin.

A few weeks ago I was working on a white based bike and I tried an experiment on a white license plate, sprayed with the some HoK white. I put a thin coat of adhesive promoter over the plate and let it dry. Then I put the lisence plate next to the white fender under full spectrume lights and saw a minor off white difference in the plate. Now if the whole set had a layer of the adhesion promo. then it wouldn't be that noticable out on the street. Stuck out next to a pure white base though.

One suggestion is to do your own expirement on a blank licence plate and compare. See what results you get and then you'll know for sure what results you want and don't want.

I've never tried to wipe it off. I don't know what the results would be. Get a panel and give a go. I'd kind of like to know myself in case.

The masked off areas is what I was thinking it would be great for. Some of those really tight ares like corners where it's hard to get in and sand right up to the edges.

I used it on a couple of chrome pieces that I wanted to paint and was very pleased with the results. No flaking or chipped paint on the pieces I shot with it. I didn't sand them, just degreased then shot the adherto and then shot the paint. Worked great.
