Yes, you can mix products... I have done HOK epoxy/sealer, PPG basecoat, HOK clear and also HOK epoxy/sealer, HOK basecoat, PPG clear...

I really like PPG's basecoats, but I prefer HOK clear -- it seems to get harder and resist scratches. I also like HOK's epoxy primer better.

Good Luck,

OK when you have a product failure who do you go to? and we all have one of those every now and then. HoK wont warrenty their clear if applied over DUPont or PPG or vise versa.

I'm sure that's true -- mixing products is at your own risk... I bet all the warrantys have text indicating you must use the products exactly as they dictate.

I personally have never had a product fail that wasn't my own screwup

it dosent happen often, but it dose happen. especially when you talking about the labor involved in a custom paint job.

I have to agree with EZ on this one. I do know guys that have mixed products without problems, but my worst nightmares have been caused from mixing products or mixing the same products incorrectly.

Good Luck

Before mixing products on the actual substrate I will try them on a test panel. It is by far cheaper than a redo and an irate customer. This helps eliminate a large portion of compatibility questions. Granted there could still be some long term problems but we face those even without mixing.
