Hok Clear Over Lacquer ?

I know about paint lifting,as well as solvent pop,but I am still curious how many people have sprayed a two part clear over lacquer paint with good results. It would seem to me, that as long as the lacquer was not fresh, and still drying, and was well scuffed for good adhesion that it would work okay. A friend wants a little flake dusted on his bike tank which is acrylic lacquer and covered with maybe 3 or 4 coats of HOK UC35 which has UV protection, rather than the long process of 10 or more coats of lacquer clear to get it smooth. I have never tried it,so I dont know the answer. I told him I would ask the experts ! So what do you think guys? Thanks a million !!:bigokay:

you may get away with it but as you probably know, there is always some risk involved.acrylic lacquer is usually pretty stable and i think it would work but i would warn your friend of the possible consequence's.good luck.cyas

Don't mix HoK with any other brand!!!

Hi
Do NOT use HoK with any other brand. HoK has a unik chemistry and dosen't go well with other brands... I know this because I went to a HoK course with one of the leding developers. And he said DO NOT use HoK With other brands... You could get a reaction a year after painting or even longer after.

i use it over martin senior base coats, and it's looked good for 5 years now.

That's more luck than skill. HoK's recomendation is not to mix there colors with other brands. If you get any reactions in the paint job if you only use HoK, HoK can trace down where it went wrong. HoK is a unik closed system.

Believe me. I've seen some crazy reactions my self. And by the way... There is no use to use anything else then Hok. They are supreme.
You should never mix any brands, not even DeBeer and Dupont or Standox and PPG if it's not waterbase.

Do what ever you wan't. I will never mix different brands again cause I'm not a chemist. All brands tell you that you don't should mix there colors with other. Maby they wanna sell and maby there is some truth to it.
But I know I don't wanna stand there with my beard in the mail box and pay for a custom paint job for $10000 my self.

I'm just telling you what I know and what I've heard and experienced.
I believe the first question in this thread was if fasteddie could or should use HoK over acrylic lacquer. And my answers is based on what I know.

All I have experenced is HOK base color does not play well with Chromabase Reducer. When I sprayed the two mixed together the finish looked like there was oil on my parts and it fisheyed real bad. I could not figure out for some time what was going on. The problem went away when I went back to HOK reducer.

WORD!!!

They have a saying at Brumos Prosche, "When in doubt, do it the more expensive way." That philosophy ends up saving them in the end. Saves them time.

I would stick to the same brand lacquer and clear, I used to shoot Dupont lacquer with Imron clear back in the 80's and many of those paint jobs still look good today.

I've had very good results using PPG-DAU75 urethane clear over lacquer paint and they don't make it any more but Dupont-500 polyurethane clear.I done this back in the late 70s. Always test first!!!If you are painting small stuff just stick to lacquer clear it's much easier on the painter.IMO Good luck!
