HOK green metalflake

Has anyone ever applied green HOK metalflake over a white base? The HOK chip book shows it over a black base. I want it a little brighter than that. I thought maybe the white showing through would look brighter than the black. I am going for the color on the West Coast Choppers 46' Worry Flathead which is on their site. Thanks

Bones is right. Shooting that flake over white or light bases really lessens the effect. I think you need the dark bases to get the flake to look right. I shot some kameleon (Red-Green) pearl flake flames on my Black Sparkle Pearl Base and the just explode off of it! The night I shot the Kameleon flake I wanted to see what it would do on a white base so I shot some on a test panel. You can barely see it and only then during movement in sunlight and looking close. You could try some different test panel bases but I think you'll find you need the dark base to get the flake to work for you.

oldschool give me your email address and I will send you a picture of the green on my bike and I think it may be close to the color you are looking for.

I just painted some of HOK's flake yesterday for a customer who wants the West Coast Choppers "Sturgius Chopper" Blue flake with green flames. I've shot some of HOK's M-F Flake which is the mini version with pretty good succes. HOK''s Regular flake Kicks-*** !! This is the loudest stuff in the world. I put it over a black base, HOK suggests 1oz flake per qt. of mixed clear. I doubled it to 2oz of flake from my previous experience with their mini flake and threw 3 coats on and it looks Killer!! From what I read in the HOK tech book, it seems that putting flake over a light base you need to increase the amount of flake up to 3 times. Now, I think in theory that when the light hits a black base in between the flakes it makes the flakes shimmer from not only on top but from underneath also. When you look at the swatch by itself it doesn't look nearly as good as it does on a tank. If you want to wait about 3 weeks I had a meeting with a client last night and he saw the blue and wants to use the green flake for flames over black and white checkers. I love having clients stop bye when I have something a little unusual in my garage, paint jobs just sell themselves - Peace! ----- Bones!~
