HOK Kandy coverage

I have used a mimicked kandy paint, basically its a color base say silver metalic and a koncetrate in my clear....it usually takes 3-4
heavy coats to get the proper color.

My question is, does the HOK Kandys take that many coats usually to get the color on the paint chart and are they very transparent to color changes under neath once layed on?

Is the HOK Kandy ready to spray or do you reduce it like a base color?

When using the Kandy concentrate do you just mix it in SG100?

Is there a benifit to either the kandy, kandy concentate, or Kandybasecoat?

Also can somebody tell me how much the base coat under a KBC affects the color, is a KBC also transparent ?

Thanks
Chuck

If your using kandy base coat you can lay that down and come back with kandy koncentrate on top. I really can't say anything about matching paint chips but the kandy koncentrate is very transparent. It can darken the overall look but light passes through to the base or pearl underneath so in the right light silver or pearl show up very well. If your looking to put pearl skulls in, lay down some kbc to a little shy of your desired color, spray your pearl and come back with kandy koncentrate on top until you get the color you want. Do what you like but I wouldn't get to locked into matching paint chips(unless you have to for a client or group)

Kandy Koncentrate is mixed 1 part reducer to 1 part sg 100 intercoat clear to about 20% kandy koncentrate. Kandy koncentrate is concentrated pigment so a little goes a long way. These ratios are for airbrushes, regular paint guns -2 parts sg 100 1 part reducer still about 20% kandy koncentrate

Kandy base coat is good for getting the desired kandy kolor in fewer steps than it used to. Candy apple red was basically a base of silver or gold with layers and layers of candy color until you achieved that practically black look . I've read about people putting anywhere from 10 to 20 layers of candy color down. So now you put a couple of good coats of KBC down and come back with the kandy koncentrate to get the color darker or richer. The KBC will only get so dark because it is not transparent, it's a base used to cover the primer and give a uniformed look to the color.

Get Craig Fraser's book Cheap Tricks and Special EFX. There's a lot of good info.

You're probably trying to get some new opinions here but I've got one more thing-Go to coastairbrush.com. They sell small amounts of HOK paint for cheap, 1 oz of kandy koncentrate is around 4 and a half bucks, 4 oz of KBC is 8 bucks. they might even be able to answer application questions.
