HOK Show Clear recoat time?

Hi Folks,
I am new to the forum and new to painting. Learning to paint out of nescessity to fix my race bikes after crashes.
I'm shooting HOK Show clear and the tech manual says to let it flash to "out-of-tack" or "no strings" prior to recoat, about 10-15 mins. I've heard of "no tack" but not "out-of tack".
I ask because the clear is still tacky long after 15 min. Any advice?
Thanks

assuming you don't have this, here's the link to the show clear,

note this statement on the tech sheet..
Apply 1 medium coat and allow to flash 10 - 15 minutes then 2 to 3 medium wet coats allowing to flash 10 - 20 minutes. Shop conditions, air flow, and reducer used will very flash times. A good rule of
thumb is to monitor the finish, allow each coat to go out of tack (no strings) before applying the next coat. (DO NOT rush your recoat time between coats. You could experience solvent popping.)

means pretty much the same thing, if you are wearing some nitrite gloves, touch the piece where it will not show up and observe for "pizza cheese stringyness"....if you see strings, don't even think of spraying your next coat. The fingertips of the nitrite gloves where you finger doesn't reach....theres like excess glove....works well as your contact to the piece.....again....if its TACKY AT ALL....ie, if the glove finger tip tends to stick slightly, then the clear is NOT OUT OF TACK.

hope this is helpful info....

Thanks for the reply. So "out of tack" is basically the same as "no tack". It was still slightly tacky long after 15 mins, but no strings, so I recoated. Hope I didn't screw it up. It looked great after I left the shop last night. We'll see how it looks this morning. I've never shot HOK clear before and I have to say that it is great stuff so far. It flows out beautifully. I was surprised at how it just kept getting smoother and smoother.

That sounds nice, I love watching the base and clears FLO.....my experience has been, if I shoot my 2nd or 3rd coats too soon, I get runs or sags.....haven't experienced the solvent pop yet.....not looking forward to that!

Good advice GTC!

I've used the HOK line for about 9 years now. Never heard of the show clear. Sounds like a nice 'slow' tacking, drying, clear so it does flow out more.
Probably for bigger jobs like cars/trucks.
Have to try it if it's fairly cheap. I still like the shop line with the slow hardener. That also dries very slow.
