HOK vs PPG clear questions

I typically use PPG 2042 clear. It works well, but I have heard some rumblings that HOK sells a clear that is a VERY high build, for that REALLY deep thick clearcoat. Is this true? I assume it works just fine over any of the PPG 1:1 DBC basecoats?

HOK is oldschool stuff and designed for thickness,I use 2042 and works good but it just can't handle the thickness of custom stuff. That's why PPG won't warrantee anything custom. They're so worried about it that if you do a factory 3 stage tinted clear or pearl repair they either want you to use DBU or add DX57 to DBC.I've done layering and multiple clearing but it's not uncommon for a sanded out tape edge to shrink in as the flowcoat is curing the next few days.Easily fixed but it's unnecessary extra work.Shouldn't have a prob with HOK over DBC but haven't done it until I repaint my scooter.2042 goes over HOK basecoats just fine and everyone around here uses PPG DT reducers in HOK.Not because of cost but because they already have DT on the shelf.

I think Rex is right on with his descriptions.... I've used HOK UC-35 and UFC-35 over PPG with no problems. I've also used 2042 over HOK with no issues. I think the 2042 sprays a little nicer, but the HOK covers better (thicker) over graphics.

I put UFC-35 on for the final clear 'cause it flows out better, but the UC-35 covers graphics better.
