Putting pearl in an intercoat clear is a pretty common thing to do, but it's not really making a candy, just a ghost effect.
I tried adding some red to intercoat clear and shooting it over a silver base, didn't quite work out but would be cool for some airbrush effects.

Kev is right,it's color mixed with clear.Mixing your own is a hit and miss until you get it right.A true candy would be made in topcoat clear but gets real thick fast.If you make it with a base or intercoat clear it's really called a 3stage color that is on alot of factory vehicles. It's the same thing basically but you don't get the depth of true candy.

PPG won't warrantee any of their custom finish line like Radiance,Harlequin, the flakes and pearls and especially if you make your own.If you're using the DBC line anything over 3 or 4 coats of base needs the hardner added to be warranted. You can marbelize with it but I haven't and heard it takes a knack to do it.
