Hi I am new here and please dont make fun of me for being a noob everyone is a noob at everything that they have ever done how else do they learn. ok so I am wanting to paint my car like a red hot pink sorta like a fuchsia or magenta. well I was wondering if i had different bases and candy's could i get something similar I don't want exact matches. Like say a red base and a pink or a magenta pearl or candy or visa versa I have never painted Candy this is my fist attempt and I want to do something on my own or else how would I ever learn. I have an 88 mustang gt convertible that I plan on doing black stripes along w/ it but first i want the perfect color. I have emailed House of Kolor and they never email back i have done 2 emails a week for the past 3 weeks. I also like live in the middle of nowhere just type in Live Oak FL guarantee there is nothing here at least not for custom that i would ever trust. and I do plan on practicing a lot before messing w/ my baby. I have at least a year before my car is ready for paint Because everything I'm doing to her I am doing on my own well maybe not the leather I'm not sure on that yet. I would have to drive well over a hour to get help from anyone. I do know how to paint cars I have done that before but my parents do it for a living i never dealt w/ the colors only the spraying and only for fun and practice never seriously painted though. please don't give a lecture on how difficult candy is i understand that I'm just seeing how to get the color. now that i live far away and I'm not speaking w/ my parents I cant ask them for help and I wont ask them. I don't want a mixed custom color thats too hard to remake if something needs fixed on my car. Oh and the mustang was my paint.net attempt to get an idea if this is really what i want to do and I realized yes I want to :)

I agree. I would say that is the color in one of the pics you attached. This way you can easily match if if you need to

You cannot achieve a brighter candy magenta using 'candy'. You will need to use a pearl type paint.

As Scott suggested stay with the pbc base coats, Shooting true candy can be tricky at the best of times.

if I can stay away from candy I will as long i get a great looking color. But I found in their Dry Flakes, Pearls & Powders 3 colors thats were really good and was wanting to get some opinions on them and see about how difficult it would be.
Ice pearls
1IP04 Ice Violet over SG107 ♥ Looks real close to the Toyota imo what yours? my screen is different than everyone else's.
2.IP05 Ice Blue over SG107
3.IP03 Ice Red over SG107
and Kameleon opal 4. KOP12 Plum Blue over SG107

The PBC39 Hot Pink Pearl will be easier to match if you need to repair panels in the future. The Ice Pearls need to be added to SG100 or SG150, so when you want to spray a repair you will need to make sure the mix is the same and that its sprayed the same. With the PBC39 the pearl is already in the pink.

The Hot Pink Pearl looks like the toyota in some light and the VW in other light. Has to be seen to really appreciate it, hard to photograph it well.

I agree...taking a solid dark pink and painting blue, red, or violet sparkles over the pink will not get you the same effect as the pics.

Plus, it seemed you wanted a paint easy to spot in. PBC-39 would be a great choice.

Just start with that and tint it to your liking. Buy an extra pint of orange and magenta toner. This way you can tint it to the exact tone you will like. Make an extra amount just in case you need to spot it in later.

By the way orange and magenta will make a bright red so if you want a reddish pink, then you will need to use both of the above

Or you could mix the PBC-35 and the PBC-39. Buy 4 quarts (2 of each) and mix them 1 to 1.
This would be a nice pink pearl.

I did think about that I even thought of sg107 and mixing it w/ one of them but don't know how well they would mix w/ those being pearls and the sg107 not. I found some cars in their pbc68 magenta and I love that color only thats not available anymore.

Since SG107 is a solid color, you would need to put the pearl 'over' the paint. You really can't mix it in with that color.
SG107 has some white in it which will kill the pearl effect.

now next question. Whats everyone opinion on a hot pink foxbody mustang? is it wrong? I mean I am catching a lot of grief about it people are saying it will look like pepto or bubblegum and its too man of a car to gay up w/ pink that i should get an 95 or newer. But I have always loved the fox and it something u dont see many women driving u def dont see them pink. I mean Im sure being a custom paint forum u prob seen some crazy things. is this a big nono or should I go for it. If you were a girly girl which I am and wanted a pink car that is. Please be 100% honest i dont want to really screw my car up i want it to look girly but really good. My last car was wrecked by my Bro inlaw after i left for pa for 10 days came back it was smashed so thats why i want a pink car. only me or my husband (if he would ever touch it :)will drive it. its not a dd its my weekend car.

It's all personal preference. If you would like a pink mustang, then go for it.
Keep in mind though, when you go to sell it, this will really devalue the car along with limiting who would want it.

se everyone else said ill loose my car value but its my car and only time i get rid of a mustang is if its totaled. I don't ever plan on selling any of my stangs they are my babys and my convertible is and will always be my 2nd love.after my first was totaled by my bro inlaw i have babied my 87 even more. I mean i am so attached when my car was wrecked I balled when i took her to the salvage yard i cried even more when I found my 87 I cried tears of joy the guy who sold her said he never saw some one so happy and excited to buy a car. at my house shes garaged and when shes at my husbands shop I now have her her very own car port shes lucky shes the only one out there under a carport.so resale is not an issue cause shes mine and will always be mine unless i have a kid and I would have to be dieing before i would consider my child.

well it's your car and you can paint it any way you want. Personnally it would not be my color choice. But as suggested it could and probably will effect the re sale value of the car. But yeah go for it, she's your car. Instead of calling it pink, how bout calling it gay salmon. lol.
Brian.
