Has anyone used the new Shimrin II system? Where you happy with it? What's
the advantages and disadvantages? I don't know how popular it is because
anyone i know who uses HOK knows nothing about this system!
Thanks

It appears to be a system in which you start with toners. Then you can add what size of flake to make it either a fine metallic or a course metallic to make it sparkle.
Also, some of the paints have been deleted and some have been added.

I am still using the Shimrin line though.
My jobber really isn't a certified HOK dealer, but they still sell it.

So to answer your question, no I have not used it.

i like the s1 so far, i have used s2 as well and it does allow you to make many more true custom colors as each and every product can be intermixed to create new affects, it does start off with a bacic color or the nblia carrier to mix the affects packs in, the costs of s2 is a bit higher than the original s1 colors and yes some colors were closed out do to supply issues. the newer affects are real nice though. the lack of a color deck is a problem when selling it to someone though as they want to see the affects and the colors first, sounds correct to me so i have stayed with the s1 colors for now and have been playing with the 32 for my own use to get a better feel for whatt he color packs and affects that i can create with it. The best part of s2 is it is compliant with all voc laws so we will have hok way into the future, its aculty better than water based systems if you can grasp that idea.

the new clear the have out is killer as well.

Which klear and why do you like it? We've been using UCC01 and it's decent. The only thing I don't like is that it's "impressionable" even a few days later. Just wrapping parts in bubblewrap left a texture.

From what I've read, the UCC01 is a slower curing clear. Not as bad as the UFC though.
I use uc35, and don't have a problem. Can buff the next day, and ship about 3-4 days later.

Back to the original question... Seems like the new system will be difficult for the hobbyist to use and get consistent results. I was satisfied with the original system. I don't get much practice due to this being just a hobby with high cost. Experimentation to learn is expensive. I'm interested in the Metalume. I have a streetrod painted with MBC-02 Metajuls and it's beautiful stuff. Harder than hell to shoot without stripes.

I also like the s1. I believe HOK was leaning toward everyone having to have a HOK mixing system in house. Not positive on this, but it seems that way with all the different metallics and toners.

Would love to be able to find/buy some original UC01 klear. I know they're still making it but not for sale in the US. That stuff was awesome.

Think they will continue to carry the original S1 line as well?

Good question. I know some of the Shimrin pearl base are discontinued.
If it was my guess, I would say they will continue to offer S1 until most everyone catches on with the S2 (may be a long while).

The problem is, I used to use a ton of S1 (of course now our shop is slower). I still use quite a bit, but my local jobber, is not a HOK dealer, BUT, they still get everything I need.
If HOK no longer offers S1, this forces my jobber to purchase a complete S2, which I highly doubt if they do which will mean....I guess I would need to change lines. Most of my candies are either a gold or silver base anyway with the choice of candy over it. Simple candies, but I do quite a few of them.

Hopefully they keep both S1 and S2 out for quite awhile

according to jon Kos s1 will continue for a long time there are no plans to stop making it. some of the pearls and pigments can not be purchsed anymore so that is why some items have gone off the product line. like magenta in s1 no longer avalible but it is in s2. so you can mix and match without going to all s2. and you dont need a mix system for s2, its just a fancy cool as hell looking shelf for all the products.

you can add the s2 with s1 products so add the affects packs to other s1 product and have a completely new product..

The ucc is what ia was talking about lays out nice, i find all the hok clears need a good dry time prior to packing for shipment or the packing leaves marks in it. i also buf in 24 hours but it sits for a week or two prior to shipping out had to many fogg in shipping like die back and need a rebuff, due to the gassing of the clear.
