how do I smooth custom fenders ?

I need to paint a tank and fender set for a customer. The fenders are custom trimmed from blanks leaving the edges less than perfect. What method should I use to smooth them with the least amount of effort?

Depending on your skills, you can use a da sander with 40 grit or so and smooth everything up (slow) or get you and angle grinder and go to town.

I think I will try the 40 grit on the D A. I am afraid the grinder will go too fast and cause even more problems. Thanks for the fast answer.
