How long can you leave a taped and masked tank for

OOPs posted this question in the wrong section.. here it is again.
How long a time can you leave a gas tank masked and taped up for before applying paint to it? I am doing a course at my local college once a week for painting, I would like to tape up and mask my gas tank with a flames design on my harley at home then shoot paint in the booth at college. reason is we only get 3 hours in the booth so to save time and ensure I get as much time to put a design down as possible I would tape the tank up at home first. Wasnt sure if the tape would stay flat for any given amount of time. thanks in advance

Martin,If you use the blue or green 3m fineline tape and do it the day or night before, you should be ok,just put some extra tape crosswise on the tops of the ovals, cause that will be the first thing to lift on ya.Jim

Try not to pull too hard when taping the oval sections, this will discourage the lifting also.

Thanks Jim
I had heard that by leaving the tape on can cause all sorts of other problems like leaving the glue behind from the tape when you peel it off.
Thought I would ask you guys with better knowledge,
