How much paint to buy

I'm going to try my first flame job. (Actually first paint job, unless you count rattle cans.) I want to use HOK paint. I want to use gold base with darker ghost flames and top coat with Kandy Brandywine. I have a Yamaha Vstar 1100 Classic to do and 2 helmets. I will probably do the helmets first to get a good feel for the job and then on to the bike parts. Tank, front and rear fender and 2 side panels.
1. Think it will look good?
2. How much base, black for the flames, brandywine for the top and clear should I buy for the entire job?
Can anyone help out a newbie here?
Also need to know the best way to remove the pinsripe decals that are under the factory clearcoat...sand or chemical? Thanks guys...great site, by the way.

I think it will look good.I'm not sure about the reductions on HOK since I haven't used it but a qt of base color should do everything. The candy will probably require more and I'd get enough clear to do it 3 times since you're flaming it and want to lose the edge. For the flames I'd just mix some black with the base to darken it for ghosting before candying it.You can outline the taped off flames with black with an airbrush but it's easy to get too much black down and and have a serious contrast. An ounces or 2 of black will be sufficient to take a little of the base color and darken it up.The guys that play with this stuff can fill you in better.Since the decals are cleared in just sand them out because they're probably painted on.If you chemical strip them you might as well strip the whole thing to avoid filling in a serious featheredge.

If you buy HOK from a paint shop who orders it you will likely have to order a quart of each.
Sorry to say HOK doesn't sell it directly in smaller quantities, you'll have to order it from an after market to get smaller quan.
But I'd still get a quart of each.
Gold and the Brandywine. The reduction for HOK is 2pts paint-1pt reducer.
The UK brandywine you will need to order a pint of KU-100 catalyst. The reduction is 2pts paint-1pt reducer-1pt catalyst.

So if I have it right ..you say:
1 gallon reducer
1 quart gold for the base
1 quart branywine Kandy for the top coat
1 quart catalyst
1 quart black for the flames and the flame edge touh-up
1 gallon clear for the 3 coats of shine

plus all the incidentals like tape, sandpaper, etc.
this oughta do it?

You have it right except, the base coats and urethanes( candy and clear ) use diffrent reducers. A gallon of clear will be way too much youll be better off with a quart of clear. a quart of urethane reducer can be bought instead of a gallon, and i believe the base coat reducer only comes in a gallon size ,the total material cost including tape and paper will run you between $250 - $300.Dont forget you will have to prime where you removed decals, plan to spend $45 - 65 for a quart set up of primer, depending on the brand you choose. make sure to use a catylized primer also.
