how to clear?

i've got a guy that wants some art work on his truck tailgate.

here's the problem-
he's got bed liner that is overlaped the clear on the outside top of the tailgate. i want to reclear the whole tailgate. how do i get around this spray on liner?


My thoughts-
tape over the liner and 800 grit the factory clear right up to the edge of the liner, and finish up by spraying the fresh clear right up to the liner edge

my concern-
will water get between the liner edge and the clear and make problems for the longevity of the product?

Really not much you can do besides what you said.
Sand it good and paint up to the edge

Just be sure and sand it real good on the edge so you don't have a peeling problem.
