how to combine an eggshell and gloss finish on the same tank?

i've got an old kz1000 with a DIY paint job. the basic finish is a semi-gloss black, with a gloss stripe down the center.

i'd like to spray an eggshell clearcoat over the semi-gloss paint, and a gloss clearcoat over the gloss paint, but i'm afraid that gasoline might creep into the joint in the clearcoats and undermine the paint.

are there any suggestions how to get an eggshell effect on part of the tank, and a gloss effect on the rest of the tank, without any joints that might compromise the protection from fuel spills?

i've posted osme pics of the kz1000 here:

thx for any help!

edit: i'm using rattlecan paints, but 2 stage clearcoats.

i would suggest to eggshell clear the entire tank first then gloss clear your stripe, i think your edge will be fine. if your spilling that much gas on it, its gonna get ruined anyways. if your rerally worried about it, lay a stripe of some sorts (painted or tape) to seal the edge. hope this helps
