how to dull a gloss finish?

i've just had my old kz550 professionally painted (gloss black). he did a great job, but it's too glossy for the age of the bike, and looks out of place with the weathered aluminum engine.

does anyone have any suggestions how i can dull the high gloss finish a bit:

- fine sandpaper or steelwool?
- mild rubbing compound?
- fine sand the gloss clearcoat and respray with eggshell clearcoat?

i've posted some pics of the 550 here:

thx.

I think it looks pretty good. I wouldnt dull it down...just work on polishing everything else up.

the only way i know is to scuff it and re shoot the clear with a little flatener in it.looks like a nice job.i'd leave it and spruce up the rest of the bike.cyas

Any sanding you do, no matter how carefull you are, will end up being uneven. You could flatten the clear like flame said or you could go all out and remove the engine cases and powder coat them ($$$).

I think it looks good the way it is personally but you have to ride it and you need to be happy with it.
