Normally when you run candy, the area gets a dark spot due to the candy buildup. If this sounds like what happened to you, then the only way I know to repair it is to spot in the base, then the candy. Then reclear again

I assume the runs you are referring to are the one's on your pedal car?

If so, sand the complete car (600 grit DA, then 1000 grit wet). Get all the shiny spots out of it and make sure your runs are 'flat'.
Spot in the runs, while being sure you don't get metallic all over the car...in other words, keep your pressure low, and even mask off each area individually. Leave your masked area larger than what you need for your blend area.
If you have one of those stripes you can mask up against, that would even be better.
Now blend your candy. The better you blend in your base metallic, the easier it is to do the candy.

Now reclear the complete pedal car.
You'll find 'reclearing' over the candy a second time will really help cut back some of the orange peel and give it even more of a nice gloss.

What do you mean by 'spot in' I always thought that a run in candy meant remove the whole lot and do it again, because you can't blend into a candy due to the fact that you'll be darkening the blend area each pass.

You can blend candy, but it takes some practice and experience. You have to do a good blend with the base, and then do a great job with the candy. Then reclear the panel (or blend this as well).
You also have to watch when you are doing the base metallic not to get it all over the rest of the panel where you will clear over. Then you'll have a nice candy area where you blended and a more sparkly area outside the blend.
