I don't recall exactly where it is but there's a discussion about it way back, maybe a year.Try the search function and if that don't help come back with Q's.

Basically you want to lay down rows of masking tape in a cross pattern then use an exacto to cut out the boxes . wish i could explain it a little better.
I would suiggest doing a test panal on a flat surface so you get the hand of the taping.

I found the thread, thanks for the tip. I'm a little nervous about cutting the tape without cutting into the paint though! I'm sure if I have a steady enough hand to handle that, but maybe I'll try to practice on something else first!!

spraying a coat of intercoat clear down over your base will keep you from going through to your basecoat if you're light with the razor.

I make a checker pattern on the computer and then cut it with my vinyl cutter. Then you take out every other square...apply it to your surface and airbrush in your pattern. See if a local sign company will aid you in this process.

Laying down a ton of tape and drawing/cutting out your pattern works, but you have to be very accurate with your square sizes.

The coat of intercoat clear is always a good idea.A slight blade cut won't show as long as it's on the edge of the color,it shows when you dig in to the undercoats or it's off the edge like trimming tape on fineline and you cut through it.
