Ok to begin o will add that i am a newbie to the spray painting industry. So i hope i can get some help from you guys. The equipment i have are as follows: 2.5 hp compressor, spray gun, vinyl paint(also known as vinyl dye), thinners, Adhesive primer, Wax and grease remover, scotsburn grey.

I am planning to paint the vinyl and plastics in my car interior.

First of all i am planning to apply the wax and grease remover with the scotsburn, 3 times to remove the surface dirt and grease on both the plastics and vinyl. Then i will be applying the adhesive primer, allowing to dry for 20mins. Then i will be applying the vinyl paint using teh spray gun.

Im just wondering if this procedure is right? If not how do you go about it?

Also is there any special techniques when it comes to applying the paint with the spray gun to get a better finish?

Also do i have to sand the surfaces of either the plastic or vinyl?

Thanks

make sure it's clean.lots of scrubing with hot soapy water before anything else.i think what you call a scots burn pad is what we call a scoch bright pad .if so it has an abrasive in it so that should be all you need.as for application .light coats are a good idea.practice on a piece of scrap first.that way if it screws up there is no harm done.good luck.cyas

What kind of info do you need? I have painted several interior pieces. for plastic or metal, I sanded with 320 or 220 to ensure a good tooth for my primers. Just to be safe I shoot either an epoxy or 2K primer. That might be a little overkill, but I want to make sure that it doesn't lift. Once you have accomplished a sound base, you can shoot the pieces like any other exterior piece: Basecoat then clear. Be very careful while shooting the clear because you probably won't be able to sand and buff the clear in most spots due to extreme curves and small openings in various mouldings. Any drips or orange peel in these areas could be very difficult or impossible to reach with even small buffing pads. If this isn't the info you were looking for, maybe it will still help at some point. Good Luck

if the panels are vynal texture you must use a grey scuff pad only and plastic primer or you will bury the texture.vynal paint is designed to bite in by itself (seats etc) so no scuffing is required .just make sure every thing is super clean.cyas
