How to paint flat black base with gloss flames?

I want to paint my bike flat black with gloss black flames with a pinstriped outline. I know how to do the pinstriping but how do I do the gloss flames? How do you do it without buffing the flat black while trying to get a shine in the flames. The best example of this I have seen is the 60's Linclon that was built on Monster Garage. I was thinking of using the single stage and taping out the flames and doing a single stage gloss over top. Will this work? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Though I have never done this, this is just an idea. Spray your black bc, then spray the clear with the gloss reducer (you choose the mix ratio), then you mask off your flames, spray them with two coats of the regular clear. Wetsand and buff if necessary (with masking still on(, then unmask and pinstripe).

You could go one step further by laying out your flames, mask on the inside of that with 1/16" tape, then clear, plus off that 1/16" tape, then wetsand and buff. This would about 'kill' all the edge...then completely unmask, then pinstripe.
I guess you could also include clearing over the pinstripe, but you need to think of the complete process as in 'steps'.
Just some ideas.
