How to safely write on primer/sealer?

Can I use a "sharpie" or similar permanent marker to make small marks on a primer coat, or will it bleed through and/or cause adhesion problems with subsequent coats? I'm trying to figure out how to put reference marks on a tank to help me do a tapeout correctly, but don't want to add to my headaches if the ink is going to interfere with the paint.

The ink will bleed through. I don't think it will cause adhesion problems though. Try a stabilo pencil, they are h2o based and come in many colors. Or put a piece of tape on the tank and then mark on top of that.

A quick correction on the pencils.
They're not h20 based but wipe off with water.
Sorry for the misinfo.
