Hi guys, first post, so be gentle:haha: i have been trying to spray my rear qtr panel, its ford machine silver, but it keeps coming out like its blue, ive done it all twice now, but same results, before that ive read the forums etc, for info about metallics, could this be down to my compressor not up to the job? or is it just me:sillyme: ive been spraying on and off for the last 20yrs, but never done silver metallic.

Sounds like it could be the color itself. Take a paint paddle, dip it in the paint, then intermediately hold it next to your car to see if the color still looks bluer than what is on your car. If it does, this confirms that the color is off.
If it DOES look close to the car, then do a test panel and compare it then. Be sure and use a medium gray paint or sealer under the silver metallic.

Sounds like Taz has it figured out for you. I went through this at one time. I sprayed silver over a very light green. Same thing happened until I got rid of the green. Then all was fine.

Hi, Thanks for the help , It seems like the paint is way off the colour, oh well, do it all again :)

If you end up getting another pint, be sure and pick up some 'test cards'. Spray a test card first so you can compare the color before actually doing the panel.

Hi guys, Well im back in love with silver, since getting a different supplier, and because i had the correct colour, it appeared to go on great, and blended in well.

Great to hear!!!
Glad everything worked out for you.

Always do a test panel first no mater what you are doing

Don't get green or yellow because it will look like you have food in them. Get something like blue. Whatever you feel like.

- just a helpful hint, if you determine the color is too blue as taz said do a test panel. if you have any laying around yellow will kill the blue cast. just dont over do it :) Also, there is no so such thing as a perfect match with metallics these days so allow for blend room either within the quarter panel if possible or on the adjacent panels.
