Intertwining Flames

Hi all,

I'm new here just joined tonight I have been painting for a few years now and I'm real interested in learning how to mask and paint intertwining flames? is there something on here that gives detailed information along with some pictures of the process?

The best training I've seen for intertwining flames is Steve VanDemon's video "The Complete Video Guide To Motorcycle Flames". He shows you how to do it step by step. This video is all you need to learn this style. The video is spendy, but it's worth it. I think I bought mine from Coast Airbrush for about $35. You could check ebay, or spraydepot.com for a cheaper price.

you gotta have a plan in your minds eye, if that makes any sense. The more intricate the flames the easier it is to get confused on which flame lick goes on top of or under the other. I have a couple of progress pics of my road king in the members pic gallery, check them out.

Awesome looking job Osh!....what colors did you use for the flames and pinstriping? I like how it turned out! what if you want to paint all the flames the same color and have them intertwine? do they have to be pinstriped?

Even if the flames are one color you still have to pinstripe them to tell which flame lick is over or under the other. along with drop shadows. The only time I wouldn't pinstripe is with ghost flames but thats another story.

The flame colors are pearl orange from a Lamborghini and the red is a 3 stage from Ford that they use on Mustangs.

I had a pro striper do that part of the job cause thats a art in itself. Some guys try to cheat on that and mask them off and paint 'em themselves but I'm a old fart who does it the old fashion way.
