Its Surprising How Few Posts This Website Gets Considering What a Great Site It Is

I just found this website a few weeks ago, though there are sever others that focus on automotive painting and bodywork that I look at every day and have for years. I also regularly visit some Motorcycle and Automobile enthusiast websites that have sections for painting. Let me tell you all something - this is a very good website. You don't see any petty bickering here, you don't see any self-proclaimed experts pontificating from on high. What you do see are thoughtful answers to questions that sometimes are nearly indecipherable. So it suprises me to see how few postings show up here.

Now I know that painting a car or motorcycle isn't exactly brain surgery. I once read that "anybody can paint" and to be honest with you I don't think that's too far off the mark. A piece needs to be added to it though, that is 'anybody can paint' if they are at least told how to do it right first. On one very good website there is a fellow who posts regularly who has in his signature line something like this: "There is no one right way to paint a car, but there are a whole lot of wrong ways." Wiser words are seldom said. That's why websites like this are so valuable. Every paint job is different and while the general plan might be the same for one as another it is the peculiar little things that pop up during every job that makes questions of 'what do I do next' questions from learning painters inevitable. So it follows that websites like this, where good information is quickly available, are a mighty good thing to have. Its just a bit surprising not to see more people take advantage of it.

Yea, I agree with you. I've worked extremely hard to get the best most updated forum software that you can get. It has all the bells and whistles. It even has all the "share" features in which you can share and post threads on the social websites, among all the other upgrades and add-ons I've done.
It also does very good on Google for someone doing searches for on things like how to paint, prep, or do bodywork. So I'm surprised not to see more users, or should I say 'active' users./

But anyway, I also agree with you, anyone can paint. In fact, most of the customers that walk into the shop have at one time or another painted. They either don't have the time, or they just want a better job than they can do.
It's forums like the Custom Paint forum, that can help them move up the ladder so they can not only call themselves a painter, but also be proud to display your work as some have done on the website.

I thank you and the others who posts replies, answers and tips that help others.
Enjoy!

All of the above is one of the reasons i chose to join this forum, not alot of bickering about who is better or why their method is better. Just good people that aren't afraid to ask and answer questions.

So far i like it and hopefully I'm not too much of an ass :)

Taz has put a tremendous amount of work into this forum. It's a friendly place with no bickering. Questions get answered with quick and precise replies. Yep painting is not rocket science, but at the same time you need to know what you are doing. As there are a few gottcha's in this industry. As Jon Kosmoski of HOK say's. 99.9 precent of painters fail at the work bench and many don't know what a stir stick is for. One of the most important things you can spend most of your time on is prep work. It will make all the difference in the world. So enjoy what Taz has built, and keep the question comming. Enjoy.
Brian.

Thanks Brian....appreciate the kind words (you can add $ to that to :haha: Monthly fee, VBseo, VB update... )

Wish I could have combined ALL the posts throughout the years.
Back in 2000, when I first started the "internet painting" website, I started the "Flames Board" (Cool Huh? My special Halloween edition.. Man, that brings back a ton of memories). e-Parts Source was one of my first sites... and ADitude Web (preserved even 10 years later. Hard to believe that used to fill up the entire screen back when monitor settings were 800x600. As far as I know, all links are still good. A few of the sites I did are still around...All American Flag and Pennant and Power Play Hemi)
Actually, I was thinking it was back in 1998, but this was the earliest evidence I could find.
Some of my old pages here and here (notice the "Flames Message Board")
One of my first websites 12 years ago. And of course where all this has lead to and my 5 other websites...whew
:bigokay:
Man...time flies too quick....

Everyone enjoy the forum!!!

I just joined and this is my first post, but I have to agree that this is a 'high quality' board.
My sons and I are considering painting a project car and are doing the research on tools, equipment and know how before we decide whether to do it ourselves or farm it out. This site has been really helpful and after spending a bit of time searching old threads we're leaning toward giving it a try.
Thanks to all who have taken the time to share their experience and knowledge, it has been really helpful to us.

Hello John, glad to hear your considering in painting your own car. Do your research first. Which is very important, and as a result of this you and your sons will sail right through the project. It's not difficult but there is work to all this, and prep is most important. Thats where it will make or break it. Besides, you'll be spending time with your sons. Now if that ain't cool. Theres lots of imformation and help available here. So don't be afraid to ask. There is no such thing as a silly guestion. So fire away, and welcome to the forum. Just have fun.
Brian.

This is one of my fave websites,i love reading all the questions and answers, taking as much info in as my brain allows! Ive said this before, but the admin staff are fantastic, also the other contibutors.
Im fairly new to some of the painting stuff (candies/flakes etc),and do feel a little self concious asking daft questions, which people (who know me at least)would assume i know about, but i always get great answers from fantastic people. Keep up the good work.

Welcome to the forum

I believe we do have a lot of lurkers. I know we have another member from UK that just posted a little while ago about finding some paint in the UK. Possibly you could find that thread and help him out. I added a post, but didn't offer much advice.
