I am in the process of repairing a right side fairing on a YAMAHA FZR600. It is cracked in several places and also there is a hole in it about the size of a quarter. Some say to weld it with a plastic iron, Some say fiberglass will not stick to it, some say SMC compound, I am between a rock and a hard place. Any suggestions?

Fiberglass won't stick.I've had great luck with JB weld over a thin coat of PPGs DP but not over this plastic.3Ms 8115 would probably work great but it or the gun (like a caulking gun) isn't cheap at all.Farm out the repair and make him do it to CYA.

I do quite a bit of work for a local group that does stunt shows with their sport bikes. Needless to say they drop them a lot. Anyway, I usually get behind the crack with some 80 grit and scuff it up really well. Then I put a generous amount of two part epoxy on the back making sure the outside is aligned while the epoxy dries. If the crack is closed I gouge it out a little to create a small valley and fill it with epoxy also. When dry it will sand down fine and you can prime and paint like normal. If it is actually missing a piece in the field of the plastic cover the hole with tape from the outside, sand after dry and fill again if needed. Had no problems yet!!
