Kameleon Flames

Hello,

I am planning out painting my bike. I want to coat the entire bike with a Kameleon color. From what I gather, the basecoat/primer color to be used is black. What I would like to do, and this is why I am asking, to see if it can be done. I want to use the balck base coat, but make flames with a lighter color, maybe white, and then apply the kameleon color over it. The effect I am going for is the flames will be the kameleon color, but just a lighter shade. Would this work?

Thanks,

Erik

No. The kameleon needs a value shade of 6 or darker for it's base. Reason being, it is a multi layer flake that acts like a prism and needs a dark color to absorb the light.
If applied over white, it will take on a grayish color with no flop. You can try putting on less coats or over reducing it to affect the color.

what about using a fairly dark charcoal for the flames you'd maybe still be in the shade factor jus' a thought!!!

Yep, DenB has the right idea. Shoot a gray base then tape out the flames and mask off the inside of the flames then shoot the black base. Then pull the tape shoot a couple coats of intercoat clear, sand down the edge and then kameleon the whole thing. Sounds good!

Ok,

Thankd for the replies so far, tis sounds good. I am planning on using House of Kolor paint, so I will give them your suggestion of the charcoal, and ask them their opinion. I still have some time until I actually apply the paint, so if anything else comes along, please mention it.

Thanks for now,

Erik

Well,

I continued my research on this and found some good news. I found this page and down near the bottom it talks about Kameleon Kolors. It has an example picture that is an Audi painted with the Green to Purple. It says that the car in the picture was painted over its original sivler color, just making it lighter, which is he effect I wanted.

Before I actually buy the paint and all, I am going to consult HOK themselves as well to make sure, as that paint is expensive.

Thanks for your help!
