Kandy base with different Kandy flame help

I want to paint a bike with two different colors of Kandy....one for the overall color and one for the flames...Lets say Orange bike with purple flames...

My question is how do you get the flames on with out a huge edge.....

I was thinking to spray a silver met. base over all then use a orange kandy and then clear.....come back and wet sand, layout flames paint with color, kandy, then remove mask and clear all of it.....do a final wetsand and buff.

Is this correct, is there something I can do to keep the edges to a minimal?

Also if I am going to outline flames when is the proper or best time to do this. I was wondering where I can get a color pen type applicator instead of the brush....
Thanks
Chuck

Hey Chuck

I did a candy base candy flame job and I think you are right on on the process. You didn't mention what brand you are using. I use HOK so that is all I know. With HOK you can use a KK intinsifier mixed in intercoat clear on the flames to keep the thickness down. If you use this method you can apply the striping after you take the flame tape off, but I chose to flame then clear then stripe. This makes it real easy to wipe off any striping mistakes with acetone. (this only works with a final clear, intercoat clear will come off with the acetone)

as for the striping pen I have used a beugler pinstriping tool with some success it still takes practice. Do a search on the board for pinstriping there have been a lot of good posts on the subject.
hope this helps

Chuck
