I'm planning to paint my 2005 night train myself, as of right now the color is black cherry, and what I wanted to do is a pegan gold base with gold flake over that and then I was going to do a kandy apple red over the whole thing. I was wondering if anybody had any tips before i start this paint job, this is only my second job. I was also wondering, do I have to sand the existing paint down to metal or can I just wetsand it with 1000? Thanx /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/peace.gif

Quite a while ago I sprayed a triumph "car that is" with a red candy laquer . I dot even know if you can get that anymore. And what I learned the hard way is that the spray pattern has got to be perfect and use a 75% overlap. But even harder than that is that you had to spray the side continuosly from front to back without stoping. So you couldnt spray a door that a fender and so on or there would be a differance in shade. So my advice would be not to stop spraying in mid stoke.
