"Lifting" images from print

Somewhere along the way someone told me that you can "lift" images off of glossy magazine pages. Unfortunatly my brain has forgotten the process. I do remember that you ended up essentially lifting the glossy finish off the page along with the image. Anyone know how this is done?

Thanks!

Lairkeeper, I printed an article on this from www. liquitex.com/techniques/transfer.cfm. I haven't tried their technique yet but it does sound interesting. I have, in the past, made what amounts to decals using clear lacquer over glossy color magazine pictures. I would build up several layers of clear over the picture, then after it dried would soak it in water to soften the paper. After it soaks for a while you can gently rub the paper off of the picture leaving a transparent image on the lacquer. These a really fragile and time consuming to make but they do work. Good luck, TC.

Thanks for the answer!

Hmmmm......another thing I didn't consider. Transparent. So would a "decal" of this kind need to be applied over a light color paint? Was considering using some David Delamare mermaid prints with an almost burgandy paint.
