I've never used this stuff before and I was just wondering if it would work on laying out a shred flame job on a helmet. The way I understand you just paint it on let it dry, spray your paint and peel it off.Does this stuff work or is it not worth buying?
Thanks for any reply.

I have used it a few times.
Draw it out the way you want it on the part, then spray (or brush) the spray mask (let dry properly), then do a cut out on your drawing. (You can see the drawing since the spray mask is transparent), then peel the area to be sprayed off. You are now ready to spray!

There's an excellent brand called "sign strip" made by Spraylat that I've used quite a bit.It was made for sign painters to do complex masking and lettering.

You can spray it or brush it on, and it air dries(you can use a heatgun or hair dryer to speed it up) It's dries quick and clear, so you can draw on it with a ball point pen. It cuts really nice ,and you can get much finer detail with it than frisket. The great plus is that you can lay complicated graphics over really tricky curved surfaces( Of course, the surface has to be non- porous or it wont come off..but it works great on anything smooth; like helmets, tanks etc. It peels like frisket but you can't re-stick it.. .)
Coast airbrush sells it.
There's also another waterbased one called "Bob Dively's liquid masking film", which I havn't used yet, but it's pretty common in R.C. car and scale model custom paint circles. Most likely it's a similar product. You can find that at hobby shops.(hobbylink.com is a good one)

Pete,
Liquid mask is fantastic stuff if you have the time. If you're not in a big rush and can wait for the stuff to dry overnight, it's great to use because it dries clear and you can cut really fine detail in it. Use a new blade in your knife at all times, careful not to cut into the basecoat, and you can really cut some sharp details.
When you're done spraying the stuff just peels off.
I've always liked the stuff but don't always have the time to let it dry and in those situations I'll use Gap Mask or tape, then cut out my graphics.
good luck,
Phil
