Hey, folks! Just joined up today, hoping to get some custom ideas for a new hood I'm putting on my 2011 Mustang GT.

This is the body color. No stripes.

Here's the hood that's on its way to the body shop:

What I'm looking for us something subtle, but unique. My thought here is to paint the hood body color, and do something special, like a pearl, in the (slightly) lowered area behind the vents. The appearance would be normal grabber blue in most light, and a pearl in the sun. The question is, what would you do there? A gradient, solid, something else? What would your color choices be?

Open to all suggestions except flames.. too cliche for me.

Thanks in advance!

so are you trying to make racing stripes that can only be seen at certain angles? are you only painting the hood or are you going to do the rest of the car to match?

you can add blue pearl to the clearcoat and just clear the stripes with a coat or two of the pearl clear then for the 3rd and fouth coats Clear the entire car with just clear no pearl.

but it sounds like you want a custom painted hood only.

Correct on both counts. :) The hood (and some aftermarkt vented fenders) are a replacement for as a result of getting backed in to.

Yep, I'm looking for a racing stripe effect, only seen in direct sunlight, and only behind those intake vents. So in the normal overcast here in Seattle, the hood is more or less body matched in grabber blue (which is completely non-metallic), but in direct sunlight, we get some pearl stripes that magically appear. :)

Accidentally posted the above twice... not quite sure where the option to delete is. :-(

well thats what i would do then paint the entire hood blue then mask out the stripes where you want them mix up some clear add a lil pearl of your choice probrably a blue pearl and spray the stripes then unmask the hood and spray with normal clear. if a shop is doing this they will know how to fix the tape lines from the stripes.

Since your ride has the clean look , I would lay down some matte black vinyl on the hood . Either black out the complete hood ( retro look ) or rallye stripes . Or chose a design of your choice . One benefit would be later down the road if you change your mind , you can peel it off . Instead of a costly repaint .

The only thing I can think of that would look different and still be subtle is basically paint the hood the Grabber Blue. Then layout the stripes, and 'fade' a heavier pearl fading back into the original color. Fade would start at the scoops.
Something like that?!

stripes would be the width of the scoops. Lay them out from the scoops back to the windshield.
