Looking for some expert paint advice...

First off, let me say, I'm a newbie here. I've got a huge passion for cars, have my own automotive graphic design business and have actually painted a few cars over the past few years, although doing the 'design' is where my strong-suit lies. Custom paint is fun, but I seem to spend more time and money fixing mistakes and have found a huge appreciation for the guys and gals who do it full time.

So...that leads me to my real reason for seeking out this site...

I've got a customer whom I'm designing a paint scheme for his 1969 Sebring MG. We're close to nailing down the design and he's thinking of using a gloss black for the main part of the car and a satin or matte silver/charcoal for the stripe.

I'm attaching my rendering here for reference. The design has changed a bit and will now be a single stripe as opposed to the double stripes, but this will give you the idea...

My concern is...I'm not sure about care/maintenance of matte or satin paints, so I'd like to help him be sure he wants to go this route before finishing the car and having issues with the paint.

I've seen some satin and matte finish cars and they seem to show fingerprints badly. Plus...what happens when the paint gets scuffed or scratched? On a clearcoat, obviously you can polish out the scuffs/scratches, but is that even possible with matte/satin paints?

This guy is pretty picky with his cars and this will be garaged and mostly driven to shows and the like. So it won't be sitting out in the elements 24/7 as a daily driver...BUT...I'm just trying to weigh the pros and cons so he knows what he's up against if he opts to go this route.

Thanks in advance for any tips/advice you can give.

As far as care, I simply use Windex on my matte finish.
I have a gloss and a matte finish together (66 Chevy PU)

If a matte finish gets scratch or marred, there is nothing that can be done. You will need to redo it.
He'll just need to take very good care of this paint job.

Also, if the guy is picky, with all the graphics you have going on, he probably will not be happy with being able to feel the edge.
It looks great on paper, but in real life, as far as I know you will have an edge between wherever the gloss and matte finishes meet.

Plus he will have a very hard time waxing the car as he'll need to stay off the matte areas.

Do the base, and graphics, and clear it with "Flex'n'Flat" clear. Or some other satin finish clear, they are avalable!

What about the 3M vinyl wrap ? They make a matt silver and a brushed metal finish as well. You can do the stripe in that and remove it if you want a change !
