Hey all- I just wanted to share something that I just found with you, When I am painting tanks and fenders I use different stencil techniques with freehand. When I create a design and cut out the stencil one way I have found to mitigate the underspray is to us small and powerfull magnets. I just found these on Ebay. They come in various sizes and the smallet ones are perfect for tight, detailed areas. Check them out. Very cheap and free shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/50-Small-Rare-E...in_0?hash=item4a986f61d6&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Not for sure if I and other members understand how they work. Can you explain. Are these yours that you are selling?

Okay- Here is what I was refering to, This is a simple stencil I use for my road cases but it can illustrate the use of the magnets. Even on a curved surface these magnets hold the edges down and prevent underspraying. They are poweful little dudes.

Okay, thanks for the pics. So if the stencil does not have a stickey back, this holds down the edges.
Trick!
Thanks for the pics

That's pretty cool. I've used 3M spray adhesive and Elmer's Kraft Bond for paper stencils like that before. Once I peeled off the stencil and the paint dried I used a wype-all with a light amount of PPG's DX330 wax and grease remover to get the glue off. Worked like a charm.

Yes I have tried that and it works great. i just watched a video from Javier Soto and learned another trick. It is actually simple and the experienced guys may already be using it.

Just cut a few holes aroun the mask. Then tape it to the substrate. Like I said pretty obvious. It works great.

Cool little tricks. Thanks for sharing. As for the magnets. You can buy rare earth magnets from your local hardware store. Or just swipe the fridge magnets the kids have plastered all over the fridge.

I will be taking delivery of a plotter today. I can't wait. I spent a lot of money sending designed vectors to the sign shop. It is a US Cutter brand. I was hesitant about buying one before because the sign shop said the software to run the machine was 1K plus. That is not the case. It is actually free with purchase.

I kinda thought that the old school custom guys would frown on plotter technology. But I also remember briefly disregarding computers when I was in dsesign school in the early 90's

you don't have to worry about that. So many of the old school guys are using plotters. Since they have become more afforadable everyone seems to have jumped on board. Yeah I remember that to about computers. But look where we are now with them. Don't know if you re call some years back. When the custom paint and airbrushing kind of slowed down, way down. All we heard about digital art on the custom side of things. Finally everyone got it that slapping a decal on a show car or bike wasn't going to do it. Imop all these computer gadgets are tools to make things a little easier for us. Ever try cutting 1/8 inch letters out with a blade. Been there done that a few times. I thought I might need therapy after that. Half way through a job doing this. I though nuts to this and got my plotter. Naw don't be concerned about the old school boys, they use'em to. Thanks for the links to. Heres one for you. Pretty cool. You'll have fun with your plotter with this one.
