Marble paint?

I am new to this paint scene and want to do the best possible job on my 92 HD FXR. I have seen several paint jobs that have flames and a marble type base. Does anyone know of a site that explains how to marble the paint.
Thanks in advance!

Marbilizing has to be the easiest effect to do, and is almost impossible to screw up. go to www.autobodysupply.net they have all of the House of Kolor tech sheets avalible on line, down load it for future refrances or ask your supplyer to give you a tech book, any decient supplier should give you a copy. if using the House of kolor brand make sure you cover your marbilized work with SG100 (intercoatclear) before topcoating or else you will have lifting problems. HOK also has an instructional video, The art of Marbilizing about $40, may be paint supply stores should start renting them out

, but they dont, but once you read how to do it the video isnt really necessary. if you need any help you can get it here, Scott put a hell of a site together and there are many talented painters on the board willing to help.

I found a job that I am interested in doing, it is reference number 69 Signature Series #003 (Blue Marbleized/Black Flames) with Base color blue marbleized. Flames are done in black with just a *touch* of blue pearl in them. My compliments to the painter for this design.

Can you let me know what colors of paint, brand of paint (HOK or PPG?), quantity and some hints/tips to get me started. I will be painting my FXR tank, two fenders and struts.
Thanks again and this site rocks!

Thanks! Pretty cool looking paint job up close.

I used a black base with House of Kolors Marbleizer, then I clearcoated, resanded, then did the flames in black with a coat of blue pearl over it, then of course recleared again.

If you have never used marbleizer, be sure and do this on a test panel before doing it as the real deal.

I'd like to do this again, except spray some HOK candy cobalt over the marbleizer to really give it some "blue" depth.

Is there a site online where I can view the HOK paints, like paint chip colors? I will have to order my HOK paints online.
Are the marbelizers colored? Or are they just one color?
Also, did you tape the flames over the marbelizer?
Thanks in advance.

Definately need to go to your local paint store and check out the marblizer color charts. There are different color marbleizers. They depend on the base under it for the overall effect.

I did the marbleizer job, then basically did the flame job after that.

What I plan on doing is to prime, paint a blue pearl basecoat, then tape off flames and spray paint marbilizer. After marbilizer with the saran wrap, coat with SG100, then spray with a Kandy cobalt blue, then clearcoat , final sanding and polishing.

How does this sound?

What is the actual 'marblizer' , is it just another base coat ? The reason I ask is because I don't really have access to HOK stuff but I do have a Sherwin Williams Ultra 7000 mixing station in my shop that I can experiment with

Outlaw, give it a try it might work. All you're doing is putting a different color base over one that's already set up good and then you screw it up with something. When you're done you can see the first base under the one you just played with.I think HOK has pearl in their marbelizer for effect.

Outlaw I'm sure you have some pearl toners on your mixing bank.Just take some white pearl, don't reduce it to much and experiment. spray it over some black basecoat, lay on the saran wrap and see what happens.First time I opened a can of marbleizer it looked like pearl to me. experiment, experiment, experiment!!!!

OK, I have sprayed my basecoat looks good, however, didn't paint it thick enough. In some places, I can see a spot of the primer. Is it best to sand it down and put another coat or just paint it again. Is it best to sand down the basecoat before marblizing? I am a weekend warrior to this and don't understand how sanding the basecoat is going to bring out the color.
Thanks in advance.

The basecoat that I am using is a pearl HOK Diamont? blue mica.
Can I sand pearl, then clearcoat.
Thanks!

? Guys/gals,
Why use the marbelizer as apposed to shooting a second base coat (like silver over black for example) the is reduced with a slow reducer?
Whats so special about the marbelizer? does it have special color pigments that swirl and flow as apposed to a flat base?
thanks

Hi, I am wanting to use House of Kolor's marbleized paint on my mini modified outlaw pulling tractor and I looked for the instructional video, The Art of Marbilizing, and I could not find it. Do you have a link that you could give me so that I may find it? Thank you!
