marble question

Rookie question
When you use marble paint and the saran wrap, do you lay it flat and smooth it or crumple the wrap and blot till desired effect?
Also: In reading the 10 steps to painting flames, it suggests a professional buffer be used. It also suggests to use 1800 rpm and then later 1400 RPM. I can not find a buffer that is adjustable to a measured RPM. Is this important? I haven't checked the rental places yet but did look at a local supply house. Is this buffer air or electric, orbital or not? Please advise.

To answer your marble question... Yes. You can lay the saran wrap flat and smooth it, or crinkle it or what ever you want with it. Thats the beauty of marblizer. There are a million ways of getting effects with it. Also, you aren't limited to saran wrap, just be sure what ever you use is clean.
To answer your variable speed buffer question... there are several brands available. The price ranges from about $125 and up. A really nice one is the Makita 9227C. They run about $175 new. You can find them on ebay for less. Check your local pawn shop for a cheaper used one.

When you're buffing with high speed you have to be in total control or risk burning through. So for that reason I would stick to the circular. The orbital could be used, but be careful you know exactly where you're polishing and how much pressure you're putting on your paint. You can try the 1800, but you really need to be able to control the speed as well so really think about getting a variable speed.

Thanks flamethrower! Sorry no pawn shops within 60 miles of me. I'll check the rental places or Ebay. Is it orbital or just circular? I did find one that was a constant 1800 RPM. What happens if I use that one? thanks in advance.
