Marblizer/SG-100/clearcoat Q\'s

I just picked up some Marblizer (HOK) and some SG-100 intercoat clear. It says I am supposed to spray a coat of SG-100 over the marblizer before clearing it??? You guys are having to do this, I suppose? Also, I got the blue marblizer, it says it works best over black. I guess it will work over other colors, too???? I will find out on a sample piece before doing any bikes, but just thought I'd ask......

Yep.... You must use the sg-100 over the marble. It seems that there is some kind of "mineral spirit" added to the marble so that it would stay wet a little longer to give you time to get the seran wrap or whatever your using to marblize with. That additive will wrinkle the clear coat. Also... you can marble over any color. Your doing a test panel first so, you'll be fine. You can't see it in the photo but, the Texas Style bike was compleley marbled and it looked good in the sun.

A black base is just the standard look but does make it look good.Any color base can be used like Dave said. The SG100 also provides adhesion (I believe) for the clear.I never really liked the stuff and haven't used it but a painter I used to work with used it alot and wouldn't use the SG100 over it.I can't remember how many delaminated from stone chips or body repairs.I remember one I had to fix some rust and when I blew it off for priming it came off in huge chunks (the clear).Could have been another reason but I attributed it to the lack of intercoat.
