masking removal issues

I have had some good results removing fineline tape from flame layouts while the paint is still quite wet and allthough it seems highly dangerous for things like touch downs I can,t get a clean edge any other way. If I wait for the paint to dry it almost always delaminates from the tape and gives me much drama trying to scuff the edge clean especially when candy is used as the basecoat always shows through on the edge. Is there somthing i am missing here or does everyone unmask early rather than later

You are right to remove the tape as early as possible. The earlier the tape is pulled, the longer the paint has to flow out and level out along the tape edge. Also make sure you are pulling the tape toward the the graphic with quick even pulls to create a cutting action. Keeping the film build to a minimum on the graphic is the key to clean tape edges.
