Matching Candy Apple paint

I'm brand new to this website but I have a decision to make between now and tomorrow. I have a 67 Mustang and it is painted candy apple red. The paint job is about 14 yrs old. There is a deep dent on the front of the hood about the size of a
quarter. I took the car to the guy who painted it and he said he would have to re-paint the whole hood. The whole car has faded since it was originally painted. He thinks he can get close by going with gold base and two coats of red and two
coats of clear. The car was originally painted with House of Colors paint. My question is should I go ahead and let him do it orjust live with the dent?

If anybody has a chance to match the paint , it would be the original painter . He should remember what he did . Where you planing on buffing the rest of the car since you stated it was faded ?

Yes. He is going to buff the car, but paint is already thinning is some places so he's not going to buff that much. Would like to repaint whole car but don't have the money right now. Told me it would cost $5000-$6000.

If the original painter said he could match it, why dispute him?
But I have to say, candy paint is extremely hard to match/touch up. And if the hood doesn't match, you can't exactly blend in the fender tops to make is un-noticable. Add your faded paint to the mix, and I'd say it's pretty unlikely it will be a good match. But unless you paint the whole car, you'll have to be happy with what you get!

You are right. If it doesn't come out right, I'll have to repaint whole car. Was told by painter's helper that it may not match perfectly but it would not be like night and day difference. Said I might not be able to see the difference but a professional would.
