Hey all! This forum has been sooo helpful and great so I'm sayin' thanks in advance I'm pretty new and getting my bearings in the painting world, painting bicycles and having a blast!
Here's a current project:
I want to do glossy black stenciling under flat black. I've seen some great pictures on here of people doing glossy flames under a matte black finish and thats what I'm lookin to do! With no idea how to do this, we tried first spraying just a regular black, placing the stencils, and then spraying a matte clear over top (not my idea). The matte seemed to have adhered too much to the vinyl and as you went to peel it off, the black AND primer underneath peeled off as well. I kind of feel like there's gotta be a better way to achieve this...
Is there a way to mix a matte black? I felt as though simply spraying a matte clear over glossy stenciling wouldnt make the paint job durable enough...
We also used a high build primer for the first time and I'm not sure if maybe that had something to do with it as well...?
Also, is there a certain trick for spraying a matte clear or is the matte we have just really crappy? It seems to be getting gunked up in our gun and just comes out looking kinda sandy and crummy, in my opinion...not like a nice smooth matte but more like sand
Thanks again in advance everyone!!
