Metallic Paint imperfection fix before clear?

I sprayed an orange metallic over white base on motorcycle body parts, some metal some fiberglass. I'm using rattle can paint that was mixed for me by paint dealer. They are spraymax cans with interior bladder and button on bottom if can to activate the hardener. I ran short of paint last night and some parts need another coat, there are also a few spots that have imperfections that definetly need to be fixed. Knowing you're not supposed to sand metallic before clear, IF you have to.... What grit and should it be wet or dry?
The clearcoat I'm using is also spraymax with button on bottom of can to activate hardener.
Thank you for any input.

I would suggest using 1500-2000 grit, then recoating. I know you said you don't have any more paint, but you pretty much need to recoat once you sand.
Or just roll the dice and just go ahead and clearcoat, THEN wetsand the areas smooth and buff. you may see the imperfections through the clear, but at least it will be smooth.

Sorry Taz I should have stated that I did purchase more paint today. That being said still go with 1500-2000?
I just noticed also that during primer application I dropped the rear fender (fiberglass) After inspecting it looked fine because where it hit wasn't an issue... Lucky me, when I applied orange it revealed a slight hairline crack.. looks like I'll have to take that down to primer again? There was no warpage or misalignment, but the paint just didnt adhere.

And Thanks for the quick reply. This forum is awesome, gave me the info and confidence to attempt this, have fun and save a bundle. Dont have the room for compresser air gun setup or I would have went that way. I would never do this job using regular rattlecans, a friend recommended this type of can and although a bit expensive ($25-30 a can) I dont need to much. Will post some pics later when I have time. Thanks Taz!

Glad you are enjoying the forum.

Yes, 1500-2000 would be fine to sand down the imperfections. Be sure you get good coverage when going back over the spots.
