Mixing different brands of paint

I've done a little homework and think have a potential problem. I'll start out by saying that I know in a perfect world you would only use HOK paints with HOK , PPG with PPG and so on, but here's the problem. HOK doesn't have a way to match the stock paint on my 99 Grand Am. I have to repaint some of the vehicle but not all of it.(nor do I really want to) The 'plan' was to start with a black base coat at the front and blend that into the stock color (drk purple) about mid front fender. Then use HOK's marbelizer starting at the front and fade that out around the front or middle of the door. Inter-clear with SG-100 (is that right?) and then clear coat over that. Can I use a PPG stock color with an HOK black and not run into problem when I marble over the PPG? And would I interclear over the basecoat that doesn't get marbled?
By the way, I want to say what a great site this is!! You guys have been VERY helpful!
Thanks again in advance .

i don't think you'll have a problem. I use martin senior paint w/ hok intercoat clear. just do a test pannel and see what happens.

You shouldn't have a problem with this. Just be sure when you do the marbliezer, don't put it on too heavy. Marbleizer does not have the best adhesion properties, so use this sparingly.

:luck:

Thanks Guys. I planned on doing some testing with the paints to make sure I could get the desired effects so I guess I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks too for the tip on the marbelizer!
