I still have to color sand and buff the pieces, but I wanted to get them up for critique

I'm pretty new to this automotive paint stuff but I am enjoying it.
Hopefully my pinstriping will get better with time.
What do ya'll think?

Kev, Awesome paint job!thats your first?Nice dry brush technique, its very popular on the west coast. As far as pin stripping goes not bad at all it takes a while and alot of pratice to develop it 100%, i still havent got it perfect yet. You have it all in this paint job Drop shadows. Graphics weaving in and out of each other, multipal colors and stripes very nice color combo. i cant wait to see your next one

Thaks Joe.
This isn't really my first attempt at paint, I've done a couple simple helmets and a car. But I really pushed myself on the graphics with this one. I had to do it twice 'cause I screwed up on my layout and ruined the first attempt So I took it back down to metal and started over. Lesson learned!
I can't wait to do another one, just not sure when that will happen.
I was going to take these pieces down to a local Harley dealer and see if I could generate some business from them, do you think what I've got here is presentable to the point that I could get something going?
Man I love doing this stuff

Kev,You bet i think you can get something in the custom paint bussiness going.Visit some Harley orienated sites alot have classified sections(CFP has an awesome classified section )or visit your local dealerships ( aftermarket shops are great places also ). it sounds like you enjoy this type of stuff, thats always a big plus. Keep up the good work and keep us informed.

Very nice job,you definately have a knack for this stuff.Love those Wideglides too,is it a 93 or 94?Oh,what did you use for the striping, basecoat or stiping paint?

Thanks.
I forget what year he said the bike is, but I could have sworn he said it was a 98?
I used PPG DBC base, also used that base with a pinch of reducer to do the striping. Is it OK to do that?

The striping was fine since you cleared it (the right way to me).The tank is off a 93 or 94 since it still has the raised filler bung, but it could have been changed out if it is 95 or newer.I thought it was your scooter, but I'm sure someone will be quite happy.

I took the parts to the local Harley dealer yesterday, they really liked it and I think are going to have me do a Fat Boy for their showroom, and try to send me some customers

That looks great! Very nice job, I would definitely be proud.

You were using an airbrush, weren't you? What kind? Or did you spray it with a regular gun?

I still haven't tried anything with shadows or accents because I'm not sure whether to use an airbrush or a small 'touch up' type of gun..

I do have a pasche airbrush (I think that's the name), is it decent for this type of stuff?

Thanks, Shawn

Hey Shawn, thanks!
I did use an airbrush for the shadows, streaks in the teal and in the flame licks.
I have a Badger Crescendo airbrush, it's very similar to the Pasche VL (dual action), so you should able to use your brush for that type stuff. The touch up gun I don't think will be able to do the thin shadows and such.
I run the airbrush paints really thin with my particular brush.

So do you use a special paint for the airbrush, or just thin out your auto. b/c a little more than usual? That's my main worry. I just had my bro-in-law buy me this airbrush, and I dont want to ruin it with the wrong paints...

Can you use regular auto paint if you thin it enough?

I am just using the same base that I use on everything else. Actually, you can reduce it to whatever the paint manufactuer says and it will spray just fine out of the airbrush. But when I do black for drop shadows I over reduce it so that it is a little more transparent and doesn't make too dark of a shadow.

Awesome job!!! I don't know much about pinstriping but that just looks great. Also good choice on the bobtail fender.
