This will be my first attempt at anything other than laying down a single color. I did a frame off restomod (bags & dubs) on my '67 Chevy pickup. It'll be an almost daily driver, but also plan to enter a few shows. It's now in red tinted primer (BASF Glasurit, yeah, $$$), so I figure this is a good time to clear up a few questions.
I'm planning the truck to be red metallic base with subtle flames at the rear of each wheel well. I thought about color change, maybe red-orange-yellow, but haven't been able to find out EXACTLY what the available products look like. I know there's Extreme, Kameleon, Harliquin, among others, but have only actually seen the Extreme chips, and they didn't look very good at all.
Question #1 - Anyone know of a color change paint that ONLY goes red-orange-yellow, no blue, purple, etc? With written descriptions, it's almost impossible to figure out what the stuff will look like when it's applied.
Question #2 - I've been told there might be problems if I use say, PPG, or other non BASF products over a BASF base. Is this true or "sales-speak"? I saw a few posts here where you folks were using 3 different brands of paint on the same job with no problems.
Thanks,
