I dont want the BIGGEST, I'm trying to find a Generally used setup...from the Guns - Compressor - paint brand - filters etc... This is for a hobby and will not for for sale. Items will be small like all those found on motorcycles. I thank you all in advance for your time and for sharing your knowledge...JC

Well I can tell you what I use in my garage setup. I have a 6 hp 33 gallon craftsman compressor with an air filter. I mainly use HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) detail guns because they save on air and material. The Sata Minijet ( $190 -$210) is real nice but if you want a budget gun you can get a harbor freight special($60) I use a Regular HVLP(Porter Cable) gun for primer with a 1.9 tip. Scott ahs a great “How To” for cheap part stands which I also use. A good buffer is a must. I use a Makita 9227c 7" electric variable speed. You also want to price out all the small stuff like tape, sand paper, gun air filters, Drop cloths, cutting and buffing compounds, and the paint it self. If you haven’t found a place to buy paint yet you might want to look into places like www.coastaribrush.com and www.innate.com. I Hok but you can buy in small quantities. Hope this helps!

Burton's setup will work great for you and you should have about $800 in spray equipment.Just remember to constantly drain the air system for condensation.I prefer a full sized gun to cut down on work since they hold more paint but a detail gun is fine as long as you stay away from heavy flakes.

Thanks again for all your responses guys. Here goes another question. I've been reading other members questions and comments. I seem to read quite a bit about problems when moisture or condensation reaches the spray gun. How can your avoid this other than draining your compressor regularly...Are there any adapters or add-ons that take care of having to worry about this?

I use a moisture trap with a filter in it at the compressor along with another regulator,I put fittings on it so I only use it when painting, you can also get those little round orange filters that go on the end of the gun as extra insurance for anything left in the hose. You'll still have to drain your tank now and then just so you dont overload you filters.Go to "helpful links"check out the stuff Autobodydepot sells.it will give you an idea of whats available for filtering air.
