I planing to paint my honda f4i, and I watched a video on how to paint a car. So I got some basic understanding about paint. I know that we need to apply the primer first, then basecoat and then clear. But when I check out the color, there are something like urethane reducer, polyurethane hardener, strainer, thinner and thing like that. I kinda confuse with these terms and don't know what to buy. Since this is the first time I painting, don't want waste money and screw up my bike. Need help on how to mix those stuff with what and painting steps I need to take? thanx.

Chvannith,
Welcome to the CPF

Most of today's basecoat/clearcoat type paints don't require a hardener in the basecoat. So the hardener that is required would be for the clearcoat.
Thinner (or reducer) is usually required in all paints, clears, primers, and sealers.

Your sealer/primer will require a hardener as well.

The strainer is used to strain the paint before it goes into the gun. These are usually free (along with paint sticks to mix the paint).

If you buy your paint from a local paint supply store, they will help you get the proper materials to do the job. The above is just a basis to go by.
Be sure and get some mixing cups with ratios on them. This will help you as well.

Hope this helps.

paint

Make sure you use the proper protection.most paints are cumulative in the body.Epoxy and urethanes will killl you and are not expelled out of the body.

Thanks

thanx for the advice. I knew that by watching the paint your car dvd, and the guy talked about that protection in the video. trying to save some money, do u know if i can just buy one gun with multiplie cups and tips. i know that it will cause me trouble cleaning before each step, but i don't mind doing that. but I not sure about contamination? got any idea. thax again.

Sure, I used to spray all my jobs with one gun. Buy one with a 1.4, 1.5, or a 1.6 tip and this will do the sealer, base, clear.
