600 grit! Wow, be careful around edges. I use 1500-2000. But you have to be careful on the edges even with 2000!
I think it is just personal preference on grit #. The key is to get a good bite for the next coat.

I'm so old, I remember when all we had was a handful of gravel glued to a piece of cardboard. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/haha.gif

Seriously, I've always used 1000 grit. But even with that I've struck basecoat a few times. Better to use a very fine grit and spend an extra 10 minutes sanding successfully, than quickly grinding your way to bare metal and having to redo the whole thing.

Have any of you guys used scuffing pastes with Scotchbrite pads?
I just started using 3M Scuff It it's pretty sweet. I still usually wind up giving the part a quick once over with some 800 wet, just to catch any missed spots, but it does get into the tight spots easily and leaves a nice tooth.

The scuffing pastes are pretty good, tried a sample. They remind me of something I used back in the dark ages... AJAX cleanser and an old wash cloth. Just make sure you rinse the residue off then wipe everything down. Haven't done this in a long time... worked back then though. TC /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/agree.gif
