iam working on my brothers 81 shovel and of all colors he decides candi apple red.

so far here are some of the paints i think i need but i need someone with experience in buying this stuff to correct me if iam wrong.

1 quart of cand apple red base coat
1 quart of orion silver metalic base
1 quart of uc-35 clear urethane and ku 150 catalyst
2 ounce can of dry gold flake

heres where iam stumped!

should i be using the sg100 intercoat clear or the sg150?
my plan was to spray the orion silver base coat, then add some gold flake to the intercoat clear to put over the silver followed by the candy apple red base coat and finally 2-3 coats of the uc35 clear

can either one, sg100 or sg150 have dry flake mixed in?
also would i be better with the urethane candy apple over the basecoat red? does the red have metalic in it, and if so what color? sorry for all the questions in one post i just wanna get this right!

thanks in advance for your help and by the way, iam a newbie here and glad to meet all......david

SG100 would be fine for mixing your flake in, SG150 is usually used to help prevent the flakes and pearl from settling. If your on a budget or just don't want to use two intercoats, then SG100 is fine as long as you keep in mind the flake will settle faster.

As for the kandy, there are as you seen two types. The candy base coat is much different from regular candy. Candy bases will become more opaque as you put on more coats and the other will become darker, even black, with more coats.

Finally, if your paints are un-reduced, you'll need reducer. You'll need to find out how much. -But I think HoK is 2:1 and usually 4:1:1 for klear; however, double checking wouldn't hurt. I'm rather new as well.

Hope I helped a bit, good luck.

helped a bunch, thanks. you just cant hardley find any tech info on house of colors unless you have a book handy. i was gonna use the candy basecoat but when i read that the urethane would give better results " harder work tho" i decided i better try it instead. i definateley know ive missed a step and went from crawlin to running with this paint
