Need input on reducer of Yellow Dupont Chromabase

I'm a newby, sorry for the dumb question, but i need some help.

I recently purchased a quart of yellow chromabase from my local jobber. I believe he said that it was a 2:1 mix with the reducer.... but I called dupont and they said it may be 1:1 but in certain cases (light colors) it can be 2:1.... then I called up the jobber again... and spoke to a different person he also said it was 1:1.

I am confused on what ratio I should use. Does it matter that much? If I reduced it too little would it orange peel on me? If I put too much, would it screw things up?

the proper reduction is 1 to 1. but on lighter colors i go 1 to 3/4. spraying yellow you will need to use a white base so you get coverage.

I only shoot Dupont, and have never seen anything but 1:1.

The white base may be a good idea depending on the color of the primer you used. Also, it may cover just fine. Try a test panel first, the white may not be needed......

BTW, welcome! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beat.gif Not too many questions are too stupid to ask! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lolsign.gif

Thanks a lot guys. I will try it out on a test area and see if the yellow will cover well enough.

I would use EZ's advice.Yellows have a tendancy to be transparent so a white base will cover easier than a grey or darker.

Do I need to put in an activator for the basecoat along with the basemaker?
