Need some advice on paint compatability

I have not done any sort of custom painting before and have just decided to paint an old bicycle frame. I used Duplicolor rattle cans of lacquer and then put a lacquer clear coat over it. Now, I want to brush on some pinstripes, but I have no idea what type of paint will be compatible with the lacquer I have used. From what I can tell, lacquer simply seems too thin to be used for pinstriping.

I've thought about getting some one shot enamel and using it with hardener, but I'm not sure this will work. I plan to apply more clear coat after the pinstripes, so I'm afraid the lacquer clear coat will left my enamel pinstripes. Now that I'm at this point, I have no idea what to do next....do I go with enamel pinstripes and then clear lacquer over them? or should I use some other material for the pinstripes? Or what about using the one shot enamel and then clear coating with something other than lacquer?

Now that I have lacquer on the frame, what are my options for pinstriping and clearcoating over it? Thanks for any advice you guys can offer.

Go buy yourself a can of One Shot, paint a stripe on a box, and squirt some of your clear on it. If it bubbles up try a different clear coat. One of them won't (bubble up) and that's the one to use.

Oh, don't put hardener in things that don't require hardener.

if you are using rattle cans, just pinstripe over your finished product w/ 1 shot. you'll be fine and it will be just as durable as the rattle cans.

if your clear needs hardner and you are shooting some kind of automotive clearcoat through a gun, then you'll need the hardener that you can get w/ one shot. this will allow the paint to dry/harden quicker and not have any problems.

but again, if you are using rattle can clears, the one shot is more durable than that paint and will be just as strong over the top of what you've got on it right now. and you'll not need the hardner.

hope this helps
